M.Ed. Administration and Supervision Concentration

U.S. News & World Report’s 2024 annual list of “Best Online Programs” ranked VCU in a tie for No. 15 in the School of Education's online Master’s in Educational Administration and Supervision Program category. The VCU School of Education was placed in a tie for No. 45 in the overall Master’s in Education Program category.

The administration and supervision concentration of the M.Ed. in Educational Leadership is a 33-credit-hour program that prepares individuals for endorsement as a K-12 administrator or supervisor.

Designed for working professionals, this program can be completed part-time in as little as 22 months, with coursework fully online. Applicants must possess an active renewable educator license and are expected to have at least two years of experience in a school setting in an instructional personnel position requiring licensure in Virginia. Individuals who successfully complete the program are eligible for endorsement as a K-12 administrator or supervisor.

At the end of the program, the School Leaders Licensure Assessment (SLLA) is required.

*Online and in-person cohorts are determined by accepted student preference in late spring. The online application includes a program modality question that aids in our ability to identify interest and need in the different learning modalities.

Our online classes involve a combination of synchronous and asynchronous work. When registering, you can find specific details about the dates and times for synchronous sessions in the course description section. Your synchronous sessions for each class will be scheduled on either Tuesdays or Thursdays within the hours of 4-8 p.m., following an every other week schedule for about an hour to an hour and a half (no more than two hours).

The School of Education (SOE) degree programs that lead to professional licensure are designed to prepare students to meet the requirements for professional licensure in the Commonwealth of Virginia as outlined by the Virginia Department of Education (VDOE). The SOE has determined that the curriculum includes applicable educational prerequisites for the following professional licensure(s) and/or certification(s) as outlined on this page of our website.
