Barbara E. Gibson Scholarship in Adult Education Certification
This scholarship is created in honor of the retirement of Barbara E. Gibson, co-director of The Literacy Institute at VCU and manager of the Virginia Adult Learning Resource Center. Throughout her career, Gibson emphasized the importance and adult literacy, and helped guide many practitioners to learn and apply the knowledge and skills necessary to become master teachers of adult learners.
The scholarship provides assistance with tuition for students in the School of Education's online adult literacy certification program.

Undergraduate and graduate students
Criteria
- Must be enrolled and have completed two courses in the online adult literacy certification program at VCU
- Must be a Virginia resident
- Must provide letter of support from regional program manager, literacy organization executive director/board chairman, or supervisor
- Must complete the course for which tuition support is awarded with a grade of B or better
