Elaine West Johnson Scholarship in Special Education
The Elaine West Johnson Scholarship in Special Education was established to honor the memory of the late Elaine West Johnson, who taught deaf children for 40 years at the Virginia School for the Deaf and Blind in Hampton, Va. The scholarship was endowed by her daughter, Dr. Diane Simon, and her son-in-law, Dr. Thomas Beatty.

Criteria
- Must be a Holmes Scholar pursuing a doctoral degree in special education
- Must demonstrate a commitment to teach in an urban environment
