John R. Cook Scholarship in Counselor Education
This scholarship honors the legacy and contributions of the late Dr. John R. Cook, who passed away in 2013 at age 94. Cook served as head of Guidance and Counseling Services at the Virginia Department of Education. He co-authored and submitted the first elementary guidance legislation in the U.S. Congress. Cook served in the Army Medical Corps during World War II: a D-Day veteran who saw service in Europe and was part of the Normandy Invasion, landing on Omaha Beach.
