Miriam S. Blake Scholarship in Early and Elementary
This scholarship was endowed in 2012 by Miriam S. Blake and her husband, Dr. William E. Blake Jr. The two of them together decided to establish this scholarship to honor Miriam’s love of school and teaching. Miriam served as a first grade teacher in Chesterfield County Public Schools and Richmond Public Schools for almost 40 years until her retirement in 2005. She was always looking for ways to ensure her students were prepared for the next grade level but also wanted to make sure they had opportunities to exceed. She says she “always wanted to yes, whenever possible to her students.” She never wanted to let any student feel like they couldn’t do something. Her biggest piece of advice for anyone aspiring to become an educator is: “Always plan a victory for your students.”
