Bio

Karen, a native of Rochester, NY, came to the VCU School of Education with a diverse background consisting of both a master’s degree in instructional and performance technology and a master’s degree in genetic counseling. She has years of experience in adult education, training, teaching and guiding individuals through the process of making difficult decisions in challenging times. Most recently she was an Academic Advisor working with undergraduate students in the VCU School of Social Work. Karen is a member of the VCU University Academic Advising Board, sitting on the Executive Board since 2022 and serving on the ad hoc bylaws committee. She is also active in the National Academic Advising Association (NACADA) where she is currently the Volunteer Chair for the 2024 Region 2 Conference and was named “Best in Region” for her presentation at the 2023 Region 2 Conference. Karen values student-centered conversations and enjoys helping students develop problem-solving and critical-thinking skills. She believes in empowering students to make informed decisions and aims to provide the support they need to achieve academic success, improve self-esteem, and experience personal growth.
