Research interests
Research interests include educational leadership, equity and justice in education, the inclusion of students with disabilities in the total school environment, access of students who have been systematically oppressed, and disproportionality that plagues discipline policies.

Bio
Dr. Seaton currently serves as the program coordinator for the Post Master’s Certificate in Educational Leadership; the Master of Education with concentrations in Leadership Studies, Culturally Responsive Leadership, and Higher Education; and the Graduate Certificate in Culturally Responsive Leadership programs. She also serves as the director of the Educational Leadership Advisory Board at VCU which is composed of diverse P-20 leaders throughout the state aimed at anticipating the learning needs of aspiring educational leaders. Dr. Seaton's deep commitment to DEI work and social justice in education is illustrated in, among other work, her dissertation on Principals’ Understanding of Equity and Social Justice Practices in Education and her book chapter for the Handbook of Classroom Management, which highlights racial inequities from ineffective classroom management and the role of the school leader in combating such disparities. Recently, she taught Equity and Leadership, Principles of Professional Writing II, and School Law. Prior to her roles in higher education, Dr. Seaton was a principal resident, assistant principal, and an exceptional children’s teacher in North Carolina public schools.
