Mission Statement

The mission of the VCU CDC is to provide high quality, developmentally appropriate care and education for the children of faculty, staff, student families, and the community and to serve as a learning lab for student learning experience, faculty research, and community outreach

Teaching Philosophy

The VCU CDC has a philosophy of play-based learning. Founded upon the NAEYC Code of Ethical Conduct, it is the responsibility of the Center to provide high quality early childhood care and education to children in a safe, healthy, nurturing, and responsive environment.

We believe children learn through play and through strong relationships with the adults in their lives. The CDC uses the Creative Curriculum, a research-based curriculum that focuses on the development of the whole child: social, emotional, physical, and
cognitive. The curriculum is play-based and constructivist in nature.
